Monitoring and Evaluation of Foreign Language Training Assistance for Overseas Internships by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Science and Technology)

Makassar, January 9, 2026 – The Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Kemendikbud) conducted a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the foreign language training program implemented by the Tourism Destination Study Program at the Vocational Faculty of Hasanuddin University (Unhas). This activity aimed to assess the effectiveness and impact of the training program provided to students.
The M&E event was attended by representatives from Kemendikbud, faculty members, and students from the Tourism Destination Studies program and the Extractive Metallurgy program. During the event, the evaluation team reviewed the materials taught, teaching methods, and student engagement throughout the learning process.
“Foreign languages, particularly Mandarin, are essential skills in the tourism industry. We want to ensure that students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that can be applied in the field,” said the Head of the Tourism Destinations Program and program coordinator.
During the monitoring and evaluation session, students were given the opportunity to demonstrate their foreign language proficiency through various simulated conversations, which were assessed by an evaluation team. This aims to directly assess how effectively students can communicate in the Mandarin they have learned. This activity is expected to serve as a first step in developing students’ Mandarin proficiency, which is key to enhancing their competitiveness in both the national and international tourism industries. With support from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the Vocational Faculty at Unhas is committed to continuously improving the quality of education in the field of tourism.
