Collaboration between Unhas Vocational School and Makassar Fisheries Service Promotes Professionalism among Halal Slaughterers
The Faculty of Vocational Studies at Hasanuddin University (Unhas), in collaboration with the Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Office, held a Halal Slaughterer Training (Juleha). The training took place at the Scientific Meeting Hall on the Unhas Tamalanrea Campus on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
The training was designed to improve the competence and professionalism of slaughterers, particularly at Poultry Slaughterhouses (RPU) throughout Makassar City, ensuring that chicken slaughtering is carried out in accordance with Islamic law and applicable halal standards.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Office, members of the Unhas Faculty of Vocational Studies academic community, and approximately 30 RPU business owners who participated in the training. This activity is scheduled to take place over three days, from October 21 to 23, 2025.
The Juleha Training is the implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Office and the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, specifically through the Animal Production Technology Study Program, as a form of synergy between the local government and educational institutions.
The Vice Dean for Planning, Resources, and Alumni of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Zainuddin, M.Si., emphasized that increasing the capacity of halal slaughterers plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of poultry products. He believes that good skills will result in products that are safe, halal, and suitable for public consumption.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Makassar City Fisheries and Agriculture Office, Aulia Arsyad, S.STP., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the support of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, in making the program a success. He stated that the Juleha training is one of the department's priority programs to improve the quality of poultry slaughter in Makassar.
He hopes that the RPU business owners who participate in the training will implement the chicken slaughtering process in accordance with Islamic law, including observing the procedures and prayers before slaughtering.
Furthermore, Aulia Arsyad also expressed his desire to expand the collaboration with the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, and involve more study programs. He believes the contributions of academics and students are crucial in supporting government programs to be more innovative and provide broad benefits to the community.
Through this training, it is hoped that the quality and halal status of poultry products sold in Makassar City will be further assured, while also encouraging increased professionalism of slaughterers at the Poultry Slaughterhouse level.
