Strengthening Applied Competence, Students of the Unhas Vocational Animal Production Technology Program Internship in the Sidrap Feed Industry

Students of the Animal Production Technology Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, conducted a Feed Industry Practicum at a local animal feed industry in Sidenreng Rappang Regency on Monday (October 20, 2025).
This activity is part of applied learning aimed at providing students with hands-on experience in the animal feed production process in the industry. Students were introduced to various production stages, from introduction to feed raw materials, mixing processes, use of production tools and machinery, to animal feed quality control.
The industrial practicum was attended by students of the Animal Production Technology Study Program under the guidance of lecturers from the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University. In addition to the technical aspects of production, students also gained an understanding of industrial management, work operational standards, and the application of occupational safety and health (K3) in the animal feed industry.
The coordinator of the practicum, Anggun Permata Sari, S.Pt., M.Pt., explained that the implementation of the Feed Industry Practicum is part of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University's efforts to strengthen practice-based learning and the needs of the industrial world. Through this activity, students not only learn theory in the classroom but also gain hands-on experience in the stages of animal feed production, from raw material identification and mixing processes, to operating tools and machines, to controlling feed product quality.
He further stated that the students' direct involvement in the local industry is expected to enhance their understanding of work standards, production management, and the challenges facing the animal feed industry. Thus, students are expected to develop more applicable competencies, be prepared for the world of work, and be able to contribute to the development of the livestock sector, both as professionals and entrepreneurs in the animal feed sector.
Throughout the activity, students appeared enthusiastic about participating in each stage of the practicum. They also actively discussed with industry representatives regarding the efficient use of raw materials, the production process, and strategies for maintaining feed quality to meet established standards.
Through this Feed Industry Practicum, the Faculty of Vocational Studies at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) reaffirms its commitment to providing vocational education that is oriented towards linking and matching with the industrial world. This activity is expected to improve the competency of graduates of the Animal Production Technology Study Program, so they are better prepared to compete in the workforce and able to meet the needs of the livestock industry.
