From Interview to Solution: Poultry Customer Care Practicum for Unhas Vocational Students

Students of the Animal Production Technology Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, conducted a Poultry Customer Care Practicum on Wednesday (September 11, 2025). This activity took place in Sidenreng Rappang Regency, known as one of the largest poultry farming centers in South Sulawesi Province.

This practicum aimed to train students in understanding the role of customer care in the poultry sector, particularly in establishing communication with farmers, identifying problems encountered in the field, and formulating applicable and targeted solutions according to local livestock business conditions.

During this activity, students collected data and conducted direct interviews with poultry farmers. The data collected covered husbandry management, feed quality, livestock health, housing systems, and common production constraints faced by farmers in poultry centers like Sidrap.

Beyond focusing solely on data collection, students also actively participated as poultry customer care staff by providing recommendations and solutions based on the problems identified. The solutions were tailored to field conditions and delivered through a persuasive and easily understood communication approach for farmers.

The coordinator of the practicum, Anggun Permata Sari, S.Pt., M.Pt., explained that Sidrap Regency was chosen as the location for the practicum because it has a large and diverse poultry business.

"Through this practicum, students learn to deal with real-world problems and hone their analytical and communication skills as poultry customer care professionals, particularly in poultry farming centers," she explained.

Students enthusiastically participated in the practicum, engaging in direct discussions with farmers and recording various field findings as learning materials. This activity also provided a platform for students to develop professionalism, empathy, and interpersonal communication skills.

Through this Poultry Customer Care Practicum, the Faculty of Vocational Studies at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) affirms its commitment to providing applied and contextual vocational learning. This activity is expected to improve students' readiness for the world of work and make a tangible contribution to the development of the poultry sector in South Sulawesi.
