The Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (DTE-FT-Unhas), which oversees the Doctoral Program in Electrical Engineering (PSDTE), was established in September 1963 as part of the development of the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (FT-Unhas), which had been founded on September 7, 1960. The proposal to establish the Doctoral Program in Electrical Engineering was approved on February 16, 2016, and the program admitted its first cohort of students in the same year.

PSDTE received its first accreditation in 2019 with a grade of B based on Decree No. 2740/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/D/VII/2019. In 2023, the program obtained accreditation from the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (LAMTEK) under Decree No. 0411/SK/LAM Teknik/AD/XII/2023, achieving the rating of “Very Good.”
