History of the Master of Statistics Study Program

The Master’s Program in Statistics at Hasanuddin University was established on July 24, 2019, based on the Decree of the Rector of Hasanuddin University Number 3874/UN4.1/KEP/2019. This study program was founded to meet the demand for advanced-level statistical experts and to strengthen the implementation of higher education in the field of statistics at the postgraduate level.
The Master’s Program in Statistics is managed under the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University. The Department of Statistics was formed in 2019 as part of institutional strengthening of statistical education, which was previously managed under the Department of Mathematics. At its inception, the Department of Statistics offered only one study program, namely the Undergraduate Program in Statistics, which later became the foundation for the development of the Master’s Program in Statistics. Building on this experience, the master’s program focuses on deepening scientific knowledge, strengthening methodological competence, and applying statistics at an advanced level in accordance with research needs and the development of the data-driven workforce.
The Master’s Program in Statistics submitted its first accreditation application to the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) in 2021 as part of its commitment to quality assurance. The BAN-PT assessment resulted in an accreditation rank of Very Good with a score of 305, as stipulated in the Decree Number 13099/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/M/XII/2021, which is valid for the period from 2021 to 2026. This achievement serves as a foundation for the Master’s Program in Statistics to continuously improve the quality of education, research, and community service at the postgraduate level.
To date, the Master’s Program in Statistics, FMIPA Hasanuddin University, continues to develop through curriculum quality enhancement, scientific publications by lecturers and students, national and international collaborations, and tangible contributions in providing data-driven solutions to development challenges, particularly in the Eastern Indonesia region.
