This study program is the oldest study program within the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Hasanuddin University. It originated from the Faculty of Public Administration at the University of 17 Agustus 1945, which was founded by Mr. Tjia Kok Tjiang. Based on Government Regulation No. 5/1980 and Presidential Decree No. 68/1982, the Department of State Administration was changed to the Department of Administrative Sciences with a State Administration Study Program. Then, based on Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 53 of 2015 concerning the Statute of Hasanuddin University, the name of the Department was changed to Faculty, so that the Department of Administrative Sciences was also changed to the Faculty of Administrative Sciences. The development of the Public Administration Study Program, later abbreviated as PSAN, led to the opening of several programs in line with its competencies, namely: the Cooperation Program between the National Archives Agency and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Hasanuddin University, in the completion of Bachelor's Degree (S1) studies. The Master's Degree Program in Development Administration (APB) and the Doctoral Degree Program in Public Administration.
