Exploring Cultural Cooperation: East Luwu Education and Culture Office Visits Department of Archaeology FIB Unhas

Makassar, October 3, 2025 - The Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University received a visit from the Head of the Culture Division of the East Luwu Regency Education and Culture Office, Mr. Akbar Bahar, S.E., and staff, in order to explore strategic cooperation in the field of cultural preservation and management.

This visit is a follow-up to the collaboration that has existed for several years, where lecturers of the Department of Archaeology FIB Unhas are actively involved as a team of cultural heritage experts in East Luwu Regency. During the meeting, both parties discussed the importance of developing a formal cooperation agreement to optimize the preservation of cultural heritage, including its utilization as a sustainable cultural tourism potential.

Cross-Study Program Collaboration  

The Department of Archaeology FIB Unhas, which houses the S1 and S2 Archaeology Study Programs and the S1 Tourism Study Program, has the academic and practical capacity to support holistic cultural management. The synergy between archaeological studies and cultural tourism development is a major strength in supporting the vision of cultural development in East Luwu.

Remarks by the Head of Department  

The visit was received directly by the Head of the Department of Archaeology, Dr. Yadi Mulyadi, S.S., M.A., who welcomed the cooperation plan. He emphasized the department's readiness to follow up on this initiative through institutional strengthening, applied research, and community assistance.

"We believe that cultural preservation must go hand in hand with community empowerment and destination development. The Department of Archaeology is ready to be a strategic partner in realizing this," said Dr. Yadi Mulyadi.

The presence of the Wallacea Heritage Indonesia Team  

The meeting was also attended by a team of archaeologists from CV Wallacea Heritage Indonesia, an archaeological research and cultural heritage preservation service company formed by alumni of the Department of Archaeology FIB Unhas. Since 2022, Wallacea Heritage has been actively supporting various preservation activities and studies of archaeological potential in East Luwu, making this collaboration even more solid and sustainable.
