Meeting between the Archaeology Programme and the Makassar City Department of Culture

On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University held a meeting with the Makassar City Department of Culture. The meeting took place in the Cultural Affairs Office’s meeting room at 10.00 WITA, with the Head of the Makassar City Cultural Affairs Office present in person to receive the delegation.

In addition to the Head of the Office, the meeting was also attended by the Head of the Cultural Heritage Division and a number of staff from the Makassar City Cultural Affairs Office, demonstrating the agency’s full commitment to supporting the cultural preservation agenda. From the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Humanities, University of Hasanuddin, the meeting was attended by the Head and Secretary of the Department, the Head of the Master’s Programme in Archaeology, the Head of the Archaeology Laboratory, and the Lecturer in charge of student affairs. The presence of the full delegation underscores the Archaeology Programme’s seriousness in fostering institutional synergy.

The agenda for the meeting provided a strategic forum for dialogue regarding efforts to preserve and manage culture in the city of Makassar. A team from the Department of Archaeology presented academic perspectives whilst offering collaboration to support local cultural programmes. The presence of experts from the field of archaeology is expected to strengthen the scientific foundation for the planning and implementation of conservation policies.

This consultation reflects a shared commitment between universities and the local government to safeguard cultural heritage, whilst developing management approaches that are adaptable to the challenges of the modern era.
