The Takalar Regency Junior Secondary School Social Studies Teachers’ Working Group Organises an Educational Visit to the UNHAS Archaeology Laboratory

MAKASSAR — The Takalar Regency Junior Secondary School Social Sciences Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP IPS) successfully organised an educational visit to the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) on Wednesday (2 September 2026). This event was organised as part of efforts to develop the competencies and professionalism of social studies teachers in Takalar Regency.

The group of MGMP IPS teachers was warmly welcomed by the university, specifically by Dr Rosmawati, Deputy Dean for Planning and Human Resources. The official reception took place in the Mandala Majapahit Room, hosted by the Head and Secretary of the FIB UNHAS Archaeology Undergraduate Programme.

Following the official welcome, the programme continued with a site visit to the UNHAS Archaeology Laboratory. At the laboratory, the participants received a presentation and technical explanations from UNHAS archaeology lecturers Dr Muhammad Nur and Suryatman, M.Hum., who were accompanied by laboratory assistant Lukman Hakim, S.S.

The teachers gained in-depth insights into the management of artefacts, archaeological research methodologies, and the use of archaeological material as contextual teaching resources at secondary school level. It is hoped that this visit will strengthen the teachers’ understanding of history and archaeology, thereby improving the quality of social studies teaching in the classroom.
