SARJANA BAHASA MANDARIN DAN KEBUDAYAAN TIONGKOK

HISTORY

The Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture Study Program was established on May 3, 2018, based on Decree 1906/UN4.1/KEP/2018. On October 28, 2010, Hasanuddin University and Nanchang University of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This was followed by the Faculty of Cultural Sciences establishing a partnership with the People's Republic of China (PRC) through the establishment of a Mandarin Language Center (PBM) or Confucius Institute. This was supported by funding and the provision of adequate human resources for lecturers and Mandarin teachers from the Confucius Institute Headquarters (HANBAN) of the People's Republic of China. The MoU between Hasanuddin University and Nanchang University-HANBAN of the People's Republic of China for the establishment of PBM at Hasanuddin University was implemented through the establishment of PBM Unhas on February 22, 2011.

The development of PBM UNHAS has been truly rapid, with a number of concrete activities underway, including: Mandarin language courses, both at the PBM office on Jalan Sunu, Makassar, and at the Unhas Tamalanrea campus, with an increasing number of participants; Mandarin teacher training for school teachers in Makassar, Mandarin speech competitions, HSK exams, and more. HANBAN also provides a large number of scholarships for Summer Camp programs, sending students to study in China for 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years for Master's programs. Based on this positive development, the Faculty of Humanities followed up on this positive development by launching an Undergraduate Program in Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture in 2018. This program received significant support from the Chinese government through a collaboration with Nanchang University and HANBAN.

In addition to facilitating an academic visit to China in preparation for the program's launch, approximately 20 FIB alumni were currently studying in the Master's Program in Chinese Language, Literature, and Culture in China, funded by the Chinese government.

Since the opening of the Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture Undergraduate Program in 2018, it has admitted its first three students, which has since seen significant annual growth, and its first graduates were in February 2022. On February 17, 2021, the BMKT Study Program received Good accreditation, valid until February 17, 2026, with Decree No. 919/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/II/2021.

Furthermore, as part of the collaboration between Hasanuddin University and Nanchang University, a 2+2 Joint Degree program was launched in 2022 for 19 students from the 2020 intake. They ultimately departed for Nanchang University in March 2023 due to the pandemic. BMKT Study Program has also received foreign lecturers from China annually since 2019 through a collaboration with HANBAN. These foreign lecturers participate in the teaching process for students.
