Photo Exhibition “Suar Abadi di Tanah Daeng”: Interpreting the Eternity of Faith Through Visual Narratives of Sacred Architecture
Students of the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, held a photography exhibition titled “Suar Abadi di Tanah Daeng” on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, starting at 10 a.m. at Baruga A.P. Pettarani Courtyard, Hasanuddin University.
This exhibition was part of the Project-Based Learning (PBL) implementation within the K23 Curriculum of Hasanuddin University, serving as the final output of the Museum and Curatorial Studies course led by Fajar Sidiq Limola, S.S., M.Hum., and Dr. Muslimin A.R. Effendy, M.A.
This year’s theme focuses on places of worship across Makassar, highlighting the city’s diversity and spiritual heritage. Through photographs depicting mosques, churches, vihara, and temples, the students presented visual reflections on how faith and history intertwine through sacred architecture that endures within the urban landscape.
According to Fajar Sidiq Limola, course lecturer and exhibition supervisor, “Domes, bells, and various ornaments found in religious buildings are not merely architectural features; they are symbols of the eternal nature of faith.” Each building featured in the exhibition was accompanied by a QR code that connects viewers to historical narratives compiled by students throughout the semester, offering an educational and interactive curatorial experience.
The event attracted around 80 visitors from both academic and public circles. As part of the session, visitors also participated in selecting their favorite photograph, with Liska’s work titled “A Space that Guides the Soul” being voted as the audience’s favorite photo.
Through “Suar Abadi di Tanah Daeng,” students not only demonstrated their technical and curatorial abilities but also created a cultural dialogue about tolerance, the endurance of belief, and the human values embodied within Makassar’s diverse worship spaces.
