Department of Regional Literature, FIB Unhas, and the Wawania Rahampu'u Matano Foundation Prepare the "Rediscovering Matano" Program

Makassar, May 21, 2026 – The Department of Regional Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin (FIB Unhas), held a meeting with the Wawania Rahampu'u Matano Foundation in preparation for the implementation of a program entitled "Rediscovering Matano," which is scheduled to commence in June 2026. This meeting marked an initial step toward establishing a collaborative synergy in the preservation and development of Matano culture through a range of planned activities.

The meeting, which took place in a warm atmosphere conducive to constructive dialogue, was attended by representatives of the Department of Regional Literature, FIB Unhas, and the executive board of the Wawania Rahampu'u Matano Foundation. During the session, both parties discussed the various agenda items to be carried out as part of the "Rediscovering Matano" program.

The program is designed as a platform to rediscover and explore the history, culture, traditions, and local wisdom of the Matano community, with the aim of bringing greater awareness to younger generations and the general public alike. Through collaboration between academics and cultural communities, the planned activities are expected to make a tangible contribution to the preservation of regional cultural heritage.

The meeting also reflected a shared commitment to safeguarding local cultural identity amid the rapid changes of the modern era. With the support of all stakeholders involved, the "Rediscovering Matano" program is envisioned as a strategic initiative in strengthening the documentation, education, and promotion of Matano culture on a sustained and long-term basis.
