MAKASSAR – On Sunday (November 16, 2025), the courtyard of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Hasanuddin University transformed into a grand stage. Student expression took center stage as hundreds of students from across departments gathered for Teras 2025 (Transformasi Demokrasi Paradigma Mahasiswa – Transformation of Student Democratic Paradigm), a celebration of art, dialogue, and creativity initiated by the Student Association of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (KMFIB) Unhas.

The event opened with the traditional Paduppa dance, followed by a choir performance and a parade introducing each department through a fashion show. Students from Indonesian Literature, English Literature, Arabic Literature, Bugis-Makassar Literature, History, Archaeology, Japanese Literature, Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture, French Literature, and Tourism took turns showcasing their identity and pride.

Teras 2025 was more than entertainment. The theater stage became a space for social critique. A play titled “Tanah Tabu” addressed sensitive issues on campus: from sexual violence cases that once tarnished Unhas, to the culture of seniority that pressures new students.

Through the performance, students voiced their hopes for a campus that is safe, egalitarian, and open to dialogue. Criticism was also directed at the lecture system, which they felt lacked two-way discussions, reducing classes to mere routines without deeper knowledge.

The highlight of the event was the mass Pagellu dance, involving more than 60 dancers. Its energetic and synchronized movements symbolized student solidarity. The stage of Teras 2025 was further enlivened by poetry readings, band performances, dance, visual arts, and other creative works, with a total of 439 students participating.

Committee Chair Giandra Andi Lolo emphasized that the event was not just a celebration, but a moment of reflection. It was a response to issues of patriarchy, capitalism, and the role of the state. “We conducted campus condition analysis, training, and creative production,” he explained.

Appreciation also came from the President of BEM FIB Unhas, Nurul Annisa Septidinia, who stated that Teras 2025 was a student expression stage worth celebrating. “I appreciate the committee. This is your stage—express your works through art,” she said.

Meanwhile, Rezki Ramadhani, Student Affairs Manager of FIB Unhas representing the Dean, highlighted the importance of such activities as a medium for character building. “Know your campus environment and be seniors who set positive examples. I appreciate the committee and BEM for providing space for students to express themselves creatively,” he remarked.

He expressed hope that Teras 2025 would become a sustainable tradition, connecting students across departments and fostering a collaborative multidisciplinary ecosystem. “I hope more students will participate in events like this,” he concluded.
