BDLP Unhas Conducts Integrated Field Practice at CV. Dewi Vaname Selayar

Selayar, December 1, 2025 — The Marine and Coastal Aquaculture Study Program (BDLP), Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, carried out an Integrated Field Practice activity from Sunday to Monday, November 30–December 1, 2025, at CV. Dewi Vaname, Selayar Islands Regency. This activity is part of strengthening experiential learning for vocational students.

The field practice was attended by BDLP students from the 2023 and 2024 cohorts, involving four courses simultaneously, namely:

  • Shrimp Production Practice in Ponds,

  • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in BDLP,

  • Aquatic Organism Disease Management, and

  • Aquaculture Engineering.

Through the integration of these courses, students are expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of vannamei shrimp production processes, starting from pond preparation, water quality management, biosecurity, disease identification, and risk management, to business concepts and the economic value of shrimp farming.

The activity was supervised by BDLP lecturers: Dr. Dian Novita Sari, A.Md., S.Pi., M.Si; Nunun Ainun Putri Sarin Banun Kaliky, S.Si., M.Si; and Muh. Fatratullah Muhsin, S.Pi., M.Si, along with education staff member Yandi Thasbih Akbar, S.Pi. The supervisors provided direct guidance in the field, including sample collection practices, water quality observation, disease symptom identification, and discussions on efficient and sustainable production strategies.

During the activity, students showed enthusiasm in participating in each practice session. They had the opportunity to interact directly with a professionally managed shrimp production unit at CV. Dewi Vaname and to understand common operational challenges faced in the modern shrimp aquaculture industry.

The BDLP Study Program stated that activities like this will continue to be strengthened to bridge academic competencies with industry needs, ensuring that vocational graduates possess relevant, practical skills and are ready to compete in the aquaculture sector.

The integrated field practice concluded with a learning evaluation and reflection session by the students. Through this activity, BDLP Unhas reaffirms its commitment to delivering high-quality, practice-based learning that is oriented toward the needs of the aquaculture industry.
