The community service program, entitled "Diversification of Patin Fish-Based Processed Products to Increase Production Capacity of the Fisheries Group in Lompulle Village, Ganra District, Soppeng Regency," was conducted in collaboration with the Milkfish Lestari Group, located in Alliwengeng, Lompulle Village, Ganra District, Soppeng Regency. The partners are a home industry group engaged in processing and marketing fishery products, with approximately 10 members. This program was implemented to address two priority issues faced by the partners: limitations in production and marketing of fishery products.
In terms of production, the activity focused on improving the partners' knowledge and skills in processing patin fish into value-added food products through the application of a zero-waste concept. Activities included program outreach, training and practical training on processing, assistance with the use of production equipment, sanitation and hygiene practices, the development and implementation of simple production SOPs, packaging and labeling, and product quality testing and evaluation. Through these activities, four types of processed catfish-based products were developed: catfish floss, catfish nuggets, fish floss bread, and catfish sauce.
Product diversification was carried out by optimizing the use of catfish as a raw material to increase added value while minimizing processing waste.
In terms of marketing, partners received assistance on strengthening product identity, packaging and labeling, developing promotional materials, and utilizing digital media as a marketing tool. Assistance also included simple recording of production, costs, inventory, and sales results as part of strengthening business management. These activities were aimed at improving partners' capabilities in designing and implementing multi-platform marketing strategies and expanding their product reach.
The program is implemented using a participatory approach through training, demonstrations and hands-on practice, ongoing mentoring, and monitoring and evaluation.
Partners are actively involved in processing, product development, packaging, labeling, and marketing. By the progress report stage, a series of key activities have been implemented and demonstrate progress in product diversity and partners' capabilities in production and marketing. Quantitative evaluation of the increased level of partner empowerment is then used to measure changes in conditions before and after program implementation.
