Malaysian Polytechnic Students Visit Unhas Vocational Faculty’s Livestock Production Technology Laboratory to Study GOTIK Oven-Baked Salted Duck Eggs and TELAS Salted Egg Crackers
Makassar, September 2, 2026 — Students from Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic, Malaysia, visited the Livestock Production Technology Laboratory—part of the Livestock Production Technology Study Program at the Vocational Faculty of Hasanuddin University (Unhas)—on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. This visit was part of an academic program offering students firsthand insight into livestock product processing innovations developed within the Unhas Vocational Faculty.
The event took place at the Vocational Faculty’s Joint Lecture Building (PBV). During the visit, students were introduced to various laboratory activities, particularly those related to livestock product processing, food product innovation, and entrepreneurship based on livestock commodities.
A key highlight was the introduction of GOTIK (egG Oven salT itIK), an innovation involving salted duck eggs processed using an oven-baking method. This product represents an advancement in livestock processing technology aimed at creating value-added food products.
The Malaysian Polytechnic students received an explanation regarding the concept and manufacturing process of GOTIK. They also had the opportunity to observe the oven-baking stages firsthand and discuss production processes, product characteristics, and opportunities for transforming livestock products into items with economic value.
Learning Product Diversification through TELAS Salted Egg Crackers
In addition to GOTIK, the Malaysian Polytechnic students were introduced to a diversified product: TELAS (TELur ASin) salted egg crackers.
TELAS represents a derivative product developed from salted eggs. Through this product, students were introduced to the concept of livestock product diversification—specifically, how livestock-derived ingredients can be processed into new products with distinct forms, flavors, and market opportunities.
The students not only received explanations about the product but also had the opportunity to taste the TELAS crackers. The product tasting session was a highlight, as students could directly respond to the flavors and characteristics of the products being introduced.
This activity also demonstrated that livestock product development can be achieved through various innovations, moving beyond conventional food items toward creative, value-added products.
Tasting Products from the Entrepreneurship Laboratory Tenants
The event included an introduction to products from tenants of the Entrepreneurship Laboratory—part of the Livestock Production Technology Study Program—such as bakso (meatballs).
Students from the Malaysian Polytechnic had the opportunity to sample these products, gaining insight into the entrepreneurial activities fostered within the Livestock Production Technology Study Program.
Showcasing these products illustrated the connections between vocational education, livestock product processing, food innovation, and entrepreneurship. The resulting products serve not only as educational tools but also as potential business opportunities.
