IEEE Distinguished Lecture: The Road to Gate-All-Around CMOS at Hasanuddin University

The Department of Electrical Engineering at Hasanuddin University once again hosted an international guest lecture as part of the Semiconductor Lecture Series on May 6, 2026. The event featured Dr. Alvin Loke, Senior Principal Engineer at Intel and Stanford University alumnus, as the keynote speaker with the topic “The Road to Gate-All-Around CMOS.”

In his lecture, Dr. Loke discussed the evolution of transistor technology, beginning with planar MOSFET, transitioning to fully depleted FinFET, and advancing toward 2nm gate-all-around systems-on-chip (Intel 18A). The presentation highlighted cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing developments as well as the challenges faced by the industry in implementing next-generation technologies.

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Ing. Faizal A. Samman, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, who served as Lecture Chair and emphasized the department’s commitment to supporting impactful semiconductor research for both society and industry.

The lecture was conducted in a hybrid format, combining Zoom Meeting participation with in-person attendance at Lecture Theater I (LT I), CSA Building, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, Gowa Campus. The presence of students, faculty members, and researchers reflected strong enthusiasm for semiconductor technology, which continues to serve as the foundation for future digital innovation.
