Profile and History
The Society of Exploration Geophysicists Student Chapter of Hasanuddin University (SEG SC Unhas) is an independent student organization under the Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University, and is internationally affiliated with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) headquartered in Tulsa, United States. This organization serves as a platform for students to develop insights, technical skills, and professional networks in the field of exploration geophysics, particularly in the energy, natural resource, and disaster mitigation sectors. In addition, SEG SC Unhas also functions as a medium for developing soft skills, leadership, and academic as well as professional collaboration among students, lecturers, and geophysics practitioners at both national and international levels.
After undergoing a one-year formation process starting in February 2010, SEG SC Unhas was officially established on September 1, 2011, as the realization of the Geophysics Department’s mandate to form an internationally standardized, intellectually driven organization. The establishment of SEG SC Unhas marked a significant milestone in the academic journey of Geophysics at Hasanuddin University, symbolizing a transition from a local organizational system to a global network recognized by the SEG headquarters in Tulsa, United States. Since then, SEG SC Unhas has consistently grown and actively carried out various academic and non-academic programs focused on advancing geophysical science and student professionalism. To this day, SEG SC Unhas continues to operate and develop through 2025, becoming one of the most productive student chapters at the national level and the official representative of Hasanuddin University Geophysics students within the international SEG Student Chapter network.
