Geophysics Department Students of Hasanuddin University’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Class of 2025 Conduct Geology Fundamentals Field Practicum

Makassar, May 16 2026 – The Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, successfully conducted the Geology Fundamentals 2025 field practicum held on 15–16 May 2026. This activity was part of the field-based learning process aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of geological concepts through direct observations of geological conditions and Earth phenomena. The practicum was attended by students of the Geophysics Department, Class of 2025, as part of their fundamental Earth science learning, which serves as an important foundation in the study of geophysics.

This field practicum was designed as a platform for students to integrate theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom with practical experiences in the field. Through various observation activities, participants were guided to identify rock characteristics, geological structures, landscape formation processes, and the relationship between geological aspects and geophysical studies. This approach is expected to enhance students’ analytical abilities, observational accuracy, and skills in scientifically interpreting geological conditions.

Throughout the two-day activity, students participated in a series of field activities, including rock outcrop observations, lithological identification, geological structure measurements, field data recording, and scientific discussions with lecturers and practicum assistants. The learning process was conducted interactively by emphasising the application of scientific methods, teamwork, and the importance of implementing proper ethics and safety procedures during field activities.

The Geology Fundamentals 2025 activity represents the commitment of the Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, to provide applicable learning experiences that support the development of students’ competencies. Through direct field experiences, students are expected to gain a more comprehensive understanding of geological aspects as an essential foundation in geophysics, while also developing critical thinking skills and professional capabilities in addressing challenges within the Earth sciences.
