Hasanuddin University Geophysics Students Awarded WEBCON Gold Prize at ACRS 2025 in Makassar
Makassar, October 31, 2025 – Students from the Geophysics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Hasanuddin University, achieved a proud accomplishment after winning the Gold Prize in the Website Competition (WEBCON) at the 46th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS 2025) held in Makassar, Indonesia.
The team, consisting of Canny Maharani, Muh. Faqih Raihan, and Herfiadi Reski Alviansyah, under the guidance of Dr. Samsu Arif, M.Si., made an international achievement with their work titled “WebGIS-Based GeoAI Application for Agricultural Land Governance in Barru Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia.”
The application developed by this team is designed to assist local governments in monitoring and managing agricultural land using a spatial data and artificial intelligence-based approach. This system allows users to view interactive land maps, analyze agricultural area potential, and predict land conditions based on historical data. This innovation is one of the digital solutions relevant to this year's ACRS theme, “Remote Sensing Innovation for Sustainable Development.”
About ACRS 2025
The Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS) is an annual international scientific conference that has been held since 1980. This event serves as an important forum for researchers and practitioners in the fields of remote sensing, mapping, and geospatial data to share knowledge, present research results, and strengthen collaboration between countries.
The hosting of the 46th ACRS in 2025 in Makassar is a source of pride for Indonesia. This event is organized by the Asian Association on Remote Sensing (AARS) in collaboration with MAPIN (Indonesian Remote Sensing Society) and will be attended by hundreds of participants from various universities, research institutions, and technology industries in the Asian region.
In addition to scientific sessions and exhibitions, ACRS 2025 also featured a Website Competition (WEBCON) that encouraged students and young researchers to innovate in developing geospatial-based digital platforms.
A Proud Victory
The news of the victory of the Unhas Geophysics team was conveyed directly via official email by Masafumi Nakagawa from Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan, confirming that their work had been awarded the Gold Prize in the Website Competition category.
“This victory shows that Unhas Geophysics students have outstanding academic and technical abilities and are able to compete with participants from various countries,” said Dr. Samsu Arif, M.Si., the team's supervising lecturer.
This achievement adds to the list of international accomplishments of Hasanuddin University in the field of innovation and technology. The team hopes that their work can be further developed and implemented in agricultural management systems at the regional level, while also inspiring other students to continue achieving at the global level.
