Matano Lake Iron Culture Socialization: Preserving Ancestral Heritage for Future Generations
Makassar, April 2, 2026 – The Regional Literature Department of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Hasanuddin University (FIB Unhas) organized the Matano Lake Iron Culture Socialization event in Luwu Timur, which took place in the Senate Meeting Room of FIB Unhas. This activity served as a platform for education and discussion regarding the historical, cultural, and local wisdom values associated with the iron processing tradition in the Matano Lake area.
The event was attended by lecturers, students, community leaders, and cultural enthusiasts who are concerned with the preservation of South Sulawesi's cultural heritage. During this event, speakers presented various information about the iron culture history of Matano Lake, which has been known as an important part of the Luwu community's civilization since ancient times.
Through this socialization, participants gained a deeper understanding of the importance of maintaining and preserving local cultural heritage amidst the development of the times. The interactive discussions demonstrated the high enthusiasm of the participants in exploring knowledge about the iron culture that forms the identity of the community around Matano Lake.
This activity was carried out as an effort to introduce and strengthen the awareness of the younger generation towards the region's cultural richness. Besides being a learning tool, this socialization is also expected to foster research, documentation, and various sustainable cultural preservation activities.
