Agriculture Minister and Makassar Mayor Join Unhas’ 70th Anniversary Fun Walk
MAKASSAR — Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman and Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin joined the Fun Walk marking the closing of the 70th anniversary celebrations of Hasanuddin University (Unhas). Held under the theme “Seven Decades of Unhas: Making an Impact, Going Global,” the event took place at the Unhas Tamalanrea Campus in Makassar on Saturday (Sept. 12).
The Fun Walk began with a leisurely walk attended by Unhas academic community members and the university’s extended family. Participants from various elements of the university gathered early in the morning in a relaxed atmosphere to strengthen ties and foster a sense of togetherness beyond academic and institutional activities.
Dean of the Faculty of Forestry at Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. A. Mujetahid M., S.Hut., M.P., IPU., who also serves as Chair of the Committee for the 70th Anniversary of Unhas, said that informal gatherings and fellowship have become a tradition in the university’s anniversary celebrations.
According to him, the Fun Walk reflected the spirit of “Seven Decades of Unhas: Making an Impact, Going Global” by bringing members of the university community together.
“We hope this spirit will continue to grow as Unhas strengthens its contributions to Indonesia and expands its global presence,” Prof. Mujetahid said.
He also expressed his appreciation to all private-sector partners for their support in making the series of events commemorating Unhas’ 70th anniversary possible.
Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, accompanied by Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., officially flagged off the participants to begin the walk. Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin was also present at the event.
The presence of the two officials underscored the importance of collaboration and togetherness in strengthening higher education institutions. On the occasion, Amran encouraged the Unhas academic community to maintain strong relationships while continuing to promote innovation.
Amran said that the strength of a university depends not only on its academic achievements but also on the close relationships and sense of unity among all members of its community.
“Make Unhas a shared home, strengthen fellowship and innovation, and make Unhas stronger in contributing to Indonesia,” Amran said.
Echoing the message, Unhas Rector Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa called on the entire university community to maintain unity and develop a strong sense of belonging to their alma mater.
According to Prof. Jompa, this sense of belonging needs to grow collectively so that every member of the university community can play a role in safeguarding and developing the institution.
“Maintain unity and make Unhas a home for the entire Unhas academic community,” Prof. Jompa said.
Following the leisurely walk, the event continued with various entertainment and activities for participants. Live music added to the festive atmosphere, while more than 60 tenants set up booths offering a variety of products and services for the Unhas community.
The committee also prepared dozens of door prizes, including Umrah travel packages, electric motorcycles, and various electronic appliances. The entertainment, tenant booths, and door prizes made the Fun Walk more than just a sporting event; it also served as an opportunity for the Unhas community to connect and celebrate the university’s seven-decade journey together.
The 70th Anniversary Fun Walk of Hasanuddin University started at 6:30 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA) at the Rectorate parking area of the Unhas Tamalanrea Campus in Makassar on Saturday (Sept. 12). (*)
