Indonesian Literature Lecturers at FIB Unhas Attend the 81st Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony
MAKASSAR — Lecturers from the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Hasanuddin University (Unhas), participated in the 81st Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony held at the PKM Field, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Monday (August 17, 2026).
Following the ceremony, Unhas also officially dispatched a team of volunteers to assist with emergency response efforts following the recent earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Unhas Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., formally sent off the volunteers, who consist of students participating in the Disaster Response Thematic Community Service Program (KKN Tematik Tanggap Bencana) and the Integrated Medical Assistance Team (TBM).
The ceremony marked the beginning of the volunteers' phased deployment to the earthquake-affected areas in NTT.
Rector Jamaluddin Jompa, widely known as Prof. JJ, said the Disaster Response Thematic KKN reflects Unhas' commitment to supporting communities, particularly during emergency situations.
"For many years, Unhas has embraced the spirit of humaniversity—a university that places humanity at the heart of its mission of community service. We continue to strengthen this commitment through concrete actions," said Prof. JJ.
Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Muhammad Ruslin, D.D.S., M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.B.M.Mf., Subsp.Orthognathic Surgery, explained that the volunteers had undergone extensive preparation before being deployed.
"Whenever a disaster occurs, we immediately mobilize the Disaster Response Thematic KKN team so they can provide direct assistance to affected communities. We also maintain close coordination with the relevant ministries because Unhas is committed to contributing to the collective disaster response efforts," he said.
A total of 50 students initially registered for the program. They were subsequently selected based on their academic backgrounds and competencies in disaster response.
According to Prof. Ruslin, all logistical preparations have been tailored to the needs identified in the affected areas.
"The Disaster Response Thematic KKN and the Integrated Medical Assistance Team are part of Unhas' initiative to strengthen its rapid disaster response system. Through the collaboration of students, lecturers, research centers, and institutional partners, the university aims to provide well-coordinated assistance while prioritizing both volunteer safety and the needs of disaster-affected communities," he explained.
The first deployment team is scheduled to depart for East Nusa Tenggara on Wednesday (August 19) and will serve in the affected area for approximately two weeks. The students will be stationed in Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, to support emergency response and community recovery efforts following the earthquake.
