Field Assessment for the Accreditation of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Geophysics
Makassar, 12–13 February 2025 – The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Geophysics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University, conducted an on-site accreditation assessment. This process represents a crucial stage in evaluating and improving the academic and institutional quality of the study programme.
The activity took place over two full days, from 12 to 13 February 2025. The assigned assessors visited Hasanuddin University directly to conduct an in-depth review of various aspects of the study programme. They not only examined documents but also observed real conditions on site related to education, research, community service, and governance practices.
This on-site assessment aimed to evaluate the alignment between the prepared accreditation documents and the actual implementation of the Bachelor’s Programme in Geophysics. The main components assessed included laboratory facilities and infrastructure, curriculum quality, human resource competencies (lecturers and administrative staff), student learning outcomes, research activities, and the internal quality assurance system.
As a study programme focusing on Earth sciences, Geophysics at FMIPA Hasanuddin University plays a strategic role, particularly in the Sulawesi and Eastern Indonesia regions, which are rich in geological potential but also highly prone to natural hazards such as earthquakes and tsunamis. Therefore, maintaining high educational standards is essential to produce graduates who are competent, adaptable, and capable of contributing to disaster mitigation and natural resource management.
During the assessment, the assessors had the opportunity to directly observe geophysics laboratory facilities and engage in discussions with lecturers, students, and programme management. The atmosphere over the two days was highly conducive, marked by strong collaboration and a clear demonstration of readiness and commitment from the entire academic community.
Through this activity, the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Geophysics at FMIPA Hasanuddin University further reinforces its commitment to maintaining and continuously improving the quality of higher education that is excellent and competitive. The on-site assessment is expected not only to serve as an evaluation process but also to provide valuable constructive feedback for future programme development, including curriculum enhancement, facility improvement, and strengthened collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
With the completion of this assessment, the programme is increasingly confident in achieving the best possible accreditation results. This success is expected to further strengthen its position as one of the leading geophysics education centres in Indonesia, while also supporting Hasanuddin University’s vision of producing high-quality graduates who make meaningful contributions to society.
