Hasanuddin University (Indonesia) in collaboration with international and national partners conducted a joint research project on tsunami deposits in Sulawesi from 5–17 August 2025. The research brought together a multidisciplinary team consisting of Saaduddin, M.Sc. (Hasanuddin University), Dr. Abang Mansyursyah Surya Nugraha and Dr. Ignatius Ryan Pranantyo (Earth Observatory of Singapore, Singapore), Dr. Jędrzej Majewski (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland), Prof. Nazli Ismail (Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia), and Tomi Ilham, M.Sc. (Samudera University, Indonesia).

The field survey was carried out in Palu and Majene, focusing on the deposits left by two significant events: the 2018 Palu tsunami and the 1969 Majene tsunami. The team employed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and coring techniques to investigate subsurface structures and collect sediment samples for further analysis.

This collaborative research is expected to provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of tsunami deposit formation and contribute to a deeper understanding of potential future hazards. The findings will serve as an important reference for developing disaster risk reduction strategies in coastal areas of Sulawesi and other tsunami-prone regions in Indonesia.
