Hasanuddin University Introduces “Disaster Literacy Monopoly” for Barru High School Students
The Community Service Team of Hasanuddin University held an interactive program titled Disaster Literacy Monopoly on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Barru Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Hall. The initiative targeted high school students as representatives of Generation Z, aiming to enhance their disaster awareness and understanding through engaging and participatory methods.
The program is part of the Campus Intellectual Property Business Development Program (PPUPIK) of Hasanuddin University, a collaboration between the Department of Geological Engineering and the Department of Geophysics, under the coordination of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) UNHAS.
The team was welcomed by the Head of BPBD Barru, H. Umar Sinampe, S.KM., M.Kes., who emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in disaster mitigation. He highlighted Barru’s complex geomorphological conditions—mountainous areas in the east prone to landslides, and low-lying coastal zones along the Makassar Strait vulnerable to flooding and coastal erosion.
The activity began with a presentation by Saaduddin, who explained the classification of disasters as stipulated in Indonesian Law No. 24 of 2007, covering natural, non-natural, and social disasters. The highlight of the program was the Disaster Literacy Monopoly game, an educational tool designed to resemble the classic Monopoly game but adapted with disaster-related content to promote awareness in a fun, contextual, and interactive way.
