Makassar, 5 September 2026

Makassar, 5 September 2026 — The Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin (FMIPA Unhas), in collaboration with the Statistics Student Association through the Himastat Peduli Sosial (SPASIAL) program, organized a community service activity for parents and students of SD–SMP Yayasan Bina Umat Nurul Hijrah.

This activity involved students from the Undergraduate Statistics Study Program, Master's Program in Statistics, and Master's Program in Data Science at FMIPA Unhas. The involvement of students from various levels strengthened academic collaboration while fostering social awareness of community needs in the field of education.

The activity, held on Saturday, 5 September 2026, raised the theme of the importance of education for parents and students. This outreach aimed to raise awareness regarding the role of education in shaping the knowledge, character, and future of the younger generation.

Through this activity, parents were encouraged to continue giving attention and support to their children's education process. Family involvement is one of the important elements in building learning motivation and helping children develop their potential.

Students were also invited to understand education as a provision for achieving their aspirations and facing various challenges in the future. This awareness is expected to foster enthusiasm for learning, self-confidence, and the willingness to continue developing their abilities.

The collaboration between lecturers and students in the SPASIAL activity is a manifestation of the implementation of the tridarma of higher education, particularly community service. This activity also provides space for students to develop their communication, teamwork, and direct interaction skills with the community.

The involvement of the Department of Statistics FMIPA Unhas in this activity also supports SDGs 4: Quality Education through efforts to raise public awareness of the importance of inclusive and sustainable education. The collaboration between the department, students, and the foundation is also in line with SDGs 17: Partnerships for the Goals, particularly in building synergy to expand the benefits of education for the community.

Through this community service activity, the Department of Statistics FMIPA Unhas is expected to continue making real contributions to the community and strengthening the awareness of the academic community regarding improving the quality of education for the younger generation.
