The Department of Statistics Welcomes New Students to the Master’s Program in Statistics and Data Science (Class of 2026)

Makassar, August 14, 2026

The Department of Statistics welcomed new graduate students on Friday, August 14, 2026. This event was attended by new students from two study programs, namely the Master's (S2) Program in Statistics and the Master's (S2) Program in Data Science.

The welcoming event served as an early milestone for new students to become acquainted with the academic environment of the Department of Statistics, while also gaining an overview of the learning process and academic atmosphere they will experience during their graduate studies.

Through this event, new students are expected to be better prepared to enter the lecture process, build communication and collaboration among students, and begin developing a critical, innovative academic culture oriented toward the advancement of knowledge.

The Master's Program in Statistics and the Master's Program in Data Science hold a strategic role in producing graduates capable of addressing the increasingly complex needs of data management and analysis. Technological developments, the availability of large volumes of data, and the growing need for evidence-based decision-making have made competencies in statistics and data science increasingly relevant across various sectors.

Students of the Master's Program in Statistics are expected to strengthen their mastery of statistical theory and methodology and to develop its application across various fields. Meanwhile, students of the Master's Program in Data Science are expected to be able to integrate statistics, computing, and data analysis to produce data-driven solutions for various real-world problems.

This welcoming of new students also marks an early step in building synergy among students, lecturers, and the academic environment of the Department of Statistics. Collaboration between the fields of statistics and data science is expected to encourage the emergence of research, innovation, and scientific works that benefit the advancement of knowledge and society.

The Department of Statistics extends a warm welcome to all new students of the 2026 Master's Program in Statistics and Master's Program in Data Science. May the academic journey that begins this year become an opportunity to broaden perspectives, develop competencies, produce outstanding work, and provide meaningful contributions through statistics and data science.

Welcome to the new 2026 S2 Statistics and S2 Data Science students. Together with data, building knowledge and delivering solutions for the future.
