Community Service: Qurban Animal Health Examination by the Veterinary Paramedic Study Program in Commemoration of the 3rd Anniversary of the Faculty of Vocational Studies

The Veterinary Paramedic Study Program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, carried out a community service activity in commemoration of the 3rd Anniversary of the Faculty of Vocational Studies. This activity aimed to provide animal health services, particularly for qurban animals ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebration.
The community service activity was conducted at two locations: Khadijah Sudiang Mosque and the Ibnul Qayyim Islamic Education Foundation in Sudiang, Makassar. This program involved collaboration among students, lecturers, and partners from Satwa Medika Utama (SADITA) and the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association of South and West Sulawesi (PDHI SULSELBAR) to conduct health examinations on qurban animals before slaughter.

Meanwhile, the postmortem examination was conducted on June 6, 2025, after the animals had been slaughtered. This examination aimed to ensure that the meat and organs of the slaughtered animals were safe for public consumption. The postmortem examination included checks of internal organs such as the liver, lungs, and kidneys, as well as the meat, to detect any possible diseases or abnormalities that may not have been identified during the antemortem examination.
During this activity, a total of 30 cattle and 4 goats were slaughtered at Khadijah Sudiang Mosque, while 16 cattle and 7 goats were slaughtered at the Ibnul Qayyim Islamic Education Foundation in Sudiang. This health examination is expected to ensure that all qurban animals are in good condition and safe for consumption.

The activity was warmly welcomed by the local community, especially by the mosque and foundation administrators, who felt greatly assisted by the health examinations conducted on their qurban animals. In addition, this activity also provided education to the community on the importance of qurban animal health checks and slaughtering procedures in accordance with Islamic law.
“Indonesia is still not fully free from strategic infectious animal diseases. Therefore, assistance in the slaughtering process and health examination of qurban animals is highly necessary. Through proper antemortem and postmortem examinations, the meat consumed by the community can be ensured to be halal, wholesome, and hygienic,” said drh. Adyatma Muhammad Nur, M.Si, lecturer of the Veterinary Paramedic Study Program, Hasanuddin University.
This community service activity is one form of the Veterinary Paramedic Study Program’s commitment to making a positive contribution to the community and the surrounding environment. Moving forward, the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Hasanuddin University, hopes to continue strengthening the role of students and the academic community in providing education and services that benefit public welfare.
